On 8 March the Ministry of Justice published its quarterly statistics covering employment claims in the period October to December 2017.
Perhaps unsurprising for the first full quarter since the abolition of the employment tribunal fee regime, the number of claims received was up 90% in comparison to the same quarter in the previous year - representing 8,173 single claims.
More significant was the 467% increase in multiple claims issued - 31,921 received relating to 548 multiple claim cases - likely to be relating to equal pay and holiday pay.
In terms of disposal of claims, 31% were disposed of as a result of ACAS conciliated settlements, 21% were dismissed upon withdrawal and 12 % were withdrawn.
8% of claims were successful at hearing.
The number of single claims has almost doubled since fees were found unlawful, with receipts, disposals and caseload outstanding increasing by 90%, 21% and 66% respectively in the three months to December 2017, compared with the same quarter in 2016.
